  7. Release Note:  The drivers contained on this disk cannot utilize the
  8. resident scalable or bitmapped PCL5 fonts available on the IBM 4039
  9. LaserPrinter.  This driver only utilizes Bitstream soft fonts and fonts
  10. available from within your 1-2-3 for DOS package.

  37. II.  Installation Instructions:
  38.  
  39.    1.  Make the drive (and directory) where you extracted the printer
  40.        driver files the current drive (and directory).
  41.  
  42.        Examples:     A:\       or       C:\PATH
  43.  
  44.    2.  Enter:           INSTDRV d:\[PATH] f:
  45.  
  46.        where;
  47.  
  48.         d:        is the drive where Lotus 1-2-3, Release 3.1, 3.1+
  49.                   or 3.4 for DOS is installed.
  50.  
  51.         \[PATH]   is the full path where Lotus 1-2-3 for DOS,
  52.                   Release 3.1, 3.1+ or 3.4 is installed.
  53.  
  54.         f:        is the drive where the new printer drivers are located.
  55.  
  56.        Examples:
  57.  
  58.            If 1-2-3 for DOS is installed on drive C in directory 123R34
  59.            and the new driver files are on a diskette in drive A, enter:
  60.  
  61.                INSTDRV C:\123R34 A:
  62.  
  63.            If 1-2-3 for DOS is installed on drive D in directory 123R31 and
  64.            the new driver files are on drive C in the current directory,
  65.            enter:

  67.                INSTDRV D:\123R31 C:

  69.        Press ENTER.
  70.  
  71.    3.  The "New Driver Installation" screen will appear.  After reading
  72.        the message, press any key to continue.
  73.  
  74.    4.  Files will be copied and the "Installation Complete" screen will
  75.        appear.  You will be at the DOS prompt.
  76.  
  77.    5.  Make the location where you have Lotus 1-2-3 for DOS, Release
  78.        3.1, 3.1+ or 3.4 the current drive and directory.

  80.        Example:

  82.                Enter:   C:

  85.    6.  Type INSTALL and press ENTER.
  86.  
  87.    7.  At the "Lotus 123 Install Program ....." screen, press ENTER.
  88.  
  89.    8.  At the "Main Menu" screen, highlight "Change Selected Equipment"
  90.        and press ENTER.
  91.  
  92.    9.  At the "Change Selected Equipment" screen, highlight "Modify
  93.        Current DCF" and press ENTER.
  94.  
  95.   10.  At the "Modify Current DCF" screen, highlight "Change Selected
  96.        Printer" and press ENTER.

  98.   11.  At the "Printer" screen, highlight "IBM" and press ENTER.
  99.  
  100.   12.  At the second "Printer" screen, highlight "IBM 4039 LaserPrinter
  101.        Series" and press ENTER.
  102.  
  103.   13.  If you wish to install PostScript drivers for your IBM 4039
  104.        LaserPrinter continue with step 14.  Otherwise skip to step 18.
  105.  
  106.   14.  CAUTION:
  107.        In TEXT mode, Lotus 1-2-3 only sends the PostScript header
  108.        information to the printer at the beginning of the spreadsheet text
  109.        print session.  This information is necessary to communicate with
  110.        the PostScript interpreter in the printer.
  111.  
  112.        If the printer is reset between spreadsheet print jobs, either
  113.        manually, by LAN action, or other means, this header information
  114.        is lost.  Without a header the print output is unpredictable.
  115.  
  116.        WE RECOMMEND USING PostScript ONLY FOR WYSIWYG PRINTING.
  117.  
  118.   15.  At the "Modify Current DCF" screen, highlight "Change Selected
  119.        Printer" and press ENTER.
  120.  
  121.   16.  At the "Printer" screen, highlight:
  122.                      "PostScript" for releases 3.1+ and 3.4
  123.             or       "Apple" for Release 3.1
  124.        and press ENTER
  125.  
  126.   17.  At the second "Printer" screen, highlight:
  127.                      "PostScript (Monochrome)" for releases 3.1+ and 3.4
  128.             or       "LaserWriter Plus" for Release 3.1
  129.        and press ENTER.

  131.   18.  At the "Modify Current DCF" screen, highlight "Return to Menu"
  132.        and press ENTER.
  133.  
  134.   19.  At the "Change Selected Equipment" screen, highlight "Save
  135.        Changes" and press ENTER.
  136.  
  137.   20.  At the "Naming Your .DCF" screen:
  138.  
  139.            To accept the name displayed, press ENTER.
  140.            To change the name, follow on-screen instructions.
  141.            If unsure, accept default name by pressing ENTER.
  142.  
  143.   21.  Depending on your Lotus 1-2-3 application configuration, you may
  144.        at this point see the "Specify A Diskette Drive" screen.  If this
  145.        occurs, proceed to Step 22.  Otherwise, skip to Step 24.
  146.  
  147.   22.  Read the instructions on the screen.  NOTE - You will need your
  148.        Lotus 1-2-3 for DOS diskettes.  Specify the diskette drive and
  149.        press ENTER.
  150.  
  151.   23.  At the "Transferring The 1-2-3 for DOS Files" screen, insert the
  152.        requested diskette from your Lotus 1-2-3 for DOS package and
  153.        press ENTER.
  154.  
  155.        ************WAIT WHILE FILES ARE BEING TRANSFERRED************

  157.        Repeat this Step if asked for another diskette.
  158.  
  159.   24.  After reading the information on the "Installation Successful"
  160.        screen, press ENTER.
  161.  
  162.   25.  If you have not previously installed WYSIWYG in Lotus 1-2-3, the
  163.        "Exit" screen will appear.  If this is the case, skip to Step 32.
  164.        Otherwise, proceed to Step 26.
  165.  
  166.   26.  At the "Generating Fonts" screen, press ENTER.
  167.  
  168.   27.  At the next screen you may select a set (Basic, Medium, or
  169.        Extended) of font sizes to generate. The more extensive the font
  170.        set, the more disk space required, and the longer it takes to do
  171.        the generation. NOTE - See "Generating Fonts" in your Lotus 1-2-3
  172.        for DOS manuals for more information.  After highlighting your
  173.        your choice, press ENTER.

  175.   28.  If you selected Basic, skip to Step 31.
  176.  
  177.   29.  If you chose Medium or Extended, you will be asked "Do you want
  178.        to generate WYSIWYG fonts now?"  Answer "Yes" and Install will
  179.        generate the fonts now and you should skip to Step 31.
  180.  
  181.   30.  If you Answered "No" you may generate the fonts later by using
  182.        the Fontgen program.  You will be at the "Change Selected
  183.        Equipment" screen.  Highlight "End Install Program" and press
  184.        ENTER.  Go to Step 32.
  185.  
  186.   31.  After the completion of font generation you will get a "Install
  187.        successfully generated the fonts......" message.  Press any key to
  188.        end Install. Installation is complete.  Skip to Step 33.
  189.  
  190.   32.  At the "Exit" screen, highlight "Yes" and press ENTER to end
  191.        Install.
  192.  
  193.   33.  To select your new driver for use in Lotus 1-2-3, start Lotus
  194.        by Typing 123 and Pressing ENTER.  When the spreadsheet screen
  195.        appears, Type / and then Select Worksheet, Global, Default,
  196.        Printer, Name and choose "IBM 4039 LaserPrinter Series" for
  197.        PCL or "PostScript" for PostScript.  (See CAUTION in step 14 re
  198.        using PostScript for text printing.)  Press ENTER.

  200.   34.  At this point you may check (or alter) your printer port
  201.        connection by Selecting Interface.  You have several Interface
  202.        options.  For best performance select one of the parallel or
  203.        serial options.  "Parallel 1" (1) is the usual connection.
  204.        If you are using AES, you must select one of the "Output
  205.        Device" selections:  usually "Output Device LPT1" (5).
  206.        Make your choice and press ENTER.
  207.  
  208.   35.  Select Quit once.  Select Update to save the settings you just
  209.        made.
  210.  
  211.   36.  Select Quit.  Your selected printer driver is now ready for use
  212.        with Lotus 1-2-3 for DOS in text mode.

  214.   37.  To select the IBM 4039 LaserPrinter for use in WYSIWYG mode,
  215.        activate the WYSIWYG addin if it is not already activated,
  216.        and then proceed to step 38.
  217.  
  218.   38.  Type   : and then select Print, Config, Printer, and choose
  219.        your printer.  "IBM 4039 Laserprinter series No cartridge"
  220.        for PCL or "PostScript" for PostScript.  Press ENTER and
  221.        select Quit, Quit.
